Lorena Boix Alonso is Deputy Director-General for Space in the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) at the European Commission. Formerly, she was Deputy Director-General for Health in the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE). Previously, she worked for 10 years in the Directorate-General for Communications Networks Content and Technology (DG CONNECT), where she held several management positions dealing with cybersecurity, privacy, digital identity management, audiovisual and ensuring coherence between digital strategies and EU budget implementation.
Prior to this, she was Deputy Head of Cabinet of Vice-President Neelie Kroes, Commissioner for the Digital Agenda, where she advised the Vice-President in the design of the Digital Agenda strategy and its implementation, including telecoms, in particular broadband investment, cybersecurity, audiovisual and copyright in the digital era. She was also Deputy Head of Cabinet during Ms Kroes' mandate as Commissioner for Competition, advising the Commissioner on antitrust policy and antitrust and merger cases mainly in the field of telecoms, audiovisual and pharmaceuticals.
She joined the European Commission, in the Directorate-General for Competition, in 2003, in the policy and coordination unit for antitrust and merger cases. Prior to the Commission, she worked at the European Court of Justice, as well as Deputy Director and Legal Coordinator of the IPR-Helpdesk Project and in private practice in Brussels.
She holds a Master of Laws from the Harvard Law School and a Licence Spéciale en Droit Européen from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She graduated in Law from the University of Valencia.
